Course Objective:
This course provides an in depth knowledge of the UNIX operating system's internal features and their operation. The course describes the data structures, their relationships and the major algorithms used to manage System, processes, system calls, interrupts and exceptions, virtual memory and file systems.
The course presents theory in practical contexts with detailed explanations of common Unix programs such as who, Is, pwd, sh, and httpd. Each example starts with a description of what the program does and how people use it. From there, the course discusses the underlying principles and mechanisms, and then uses those ideas to write a version of the program.
What you will learn:
This course introduces the UNIX operating system . It also describes UNIX system programming tools and UNIX internals. It will focus on how to get things done in UNIX.
Course Outline:
Part-1
UNIX environment ,The UNIX shells, Important utilities in UNIX, C programming tools, Networking Utilities ,System programming system calls, files, processes, sockets and pipes ,Overview of Operating system Internals: kernel, inodes, files and processes .
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to describe the way the following components are implemented: Memory management ,Process management, System calls ,Interrupt and exceptions, Virutal memory ,File systems etc.

Prerequisite:
Eligibility- B.E, B.Tech, BIT, MIT, BCA, BSC, MSC, PGDCA, MS, M.Tech, MCA & PHD. Students should have a minimum of one year of programming experience, knowledge of general purpose operating system concepts and computer architecture concepts.
